Window treatments are the glue that brings the decor of a room together. Custom curtains and custom drapery elevate the aesthetic of any space to one of luxury and elegance. Heritage Design Interiors offers custom Hunter Douglas drapes in addition to our in-house custom creations. Allow us to make your window shine brighter with custom drapery.
With all the ready-made options available in retail stores, what makes custom drapes stand out?
The first thing that really stands out to us is the difference in quality. When we make your drapes in-house, our designers take the time to ensure every detail exceeds your expectations. Drapes made in large factories do not undergo the same quality control as custom. Big box stores tend to sell curtains and drapes made with thinner drapery fabrics. These drapes are also improperly hemmed and lack the pleats necessary for structure and stability. Mass manufacturers churn out window coverings in “standard” sizes that fit well on very few windows. Your new curtains and drapes will be tailor-made to the exact measurements of your windows.
Choosing custom curtains allows you to work closely with our professional designers and benefit from their comprehensive knowledge of both drapery and interior design. The function is as important as fashion when it comes to drapery, and we will provide the suggestions you need to select the ideal curtains for every room. The endless number of color and fabric options for custom drapery make it uncomplicated to match your window treatments to your existing decor.
Our in-house fabric library contains more than 1,000 selections ranging from traditional to contemporary and any design style in between. We offer sheer curtains, prints and patterns, textures, and luxe fabrics like velvet. Our team can also create custom bedding, upholstery, and much more with your material of choice.
Pinch pleat or grommet styles are available on stationary side panels, while functioning drapery can be made with pinch pleat or ripplefold. Premium hardware in luxe custom finishes, including satin nickel, brushed bronze, and matte black, deliver a stunning finishing touch. For your convenience, custom drapes can be lined with either a light-filtering or room-darkening opacity fabric.
The terms are often used interchangeably, but curtains and drapes are two distinct window treatments.
Drapery fabric, on the other hand, is heavier and more sumptuous. Drapes hold their own in formal, elegant spaces and always have a long length. Your drapes can end ½” above the floor, also known as brushing the floor. Drapery can also break on the floor or puddle. Breaking on the floor and pooling requires a length several inches beyond the measurement to the floor.
Both will dominate your decor scheme if you have many windows in a room, so keep that in mind when choosing your drapery fabric.
Custom curtains and custom drapery are meant to be showstoppers, but hanging them improperly will cast a pall over their potential. Always follow the “high and wide rule” when deciding where to install your curtains or drapes. Installing hardware right above the window frame cuts the window off from the rest of the vertical space. Instead, the hardware should be placed a few inches below the ceiling. This will create a more spacious look and feel in your room and make your windows appear larger. Fullness is another essential component of stunning drapery and curtains. Both should extend beyond the sides of the window frame between 8-12” to ensure your view isn’t hindered by stack back and that your drapes look lush when fully open.
